The first Group 1 of the Perth Summer Carnival is just around the corner, and we’ll be treated to nine races on 2023 Fairetha Stakes Day.

Magic Millions Plate (1100m) – 3:34pm AEDT
All but one galloper is on debut in the first at Ascot on Saturday.
I am happy to stay out of this one from a betting perspective.

WA Racehorse Owners’ Association Plate (1200m) – 4:14pm AEDT
Snow Prince steps out this week in peak order and ready to strike.
He’s yet to win in three starts back from a break, but there is no doubt that he has stripped fitter for each, and he was luckless here at his latest.
With even luck, something like this should prove to be ideal for him.

Carbine Club Of WA Apprentice Cup (2200m) – 4:54pm AEDT
Diamond Scene has recorded two wins from as many starts back from a break, and looks well placed for the hat-trick at Ascot on Saturday.
The So You Think gelding hit the line well over a mile here at his first start for the Donna Riordan yard, and he franked that with another eye-catching effort here a couple of weeks ago.
Fitter third-up and out to the 2200m, I think he’ll be right in the finish again.
Suggested Bet: No. 5 Diamond Scene
Westspeed Platinum Series Heat 2 (1200m) – 5:33pm AEDT
The consistent Deamber goes around in this race, and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.
Deamber hasn’t missed a placing in five starts back from a break, culminating in an eye-catching win over 1400m here last time out.
She’s hard fit and with even luck, can win again.

Happy 90th Birthday Lorna Ward Handicap (1600m) – 6:10pm AEDT
Cosmic Crusader is going to take a power of beating in something like this.
The Maurice gelding returned to winning form in dominant fashion over this route two back, before finishing only half a length behind the winner at his latest.
He looks to be in peak order this week and can fight out the finish again.

Listed Luckygray Stakes (1800m) – 6:50pm AEDT
Casino Seventeen will take improvement into his second campaign start on Saturday, and I think that he will return to winning form.
The Grant & Alana Williams-trained gelding has been a great horse for the stable for a couple of season now, and he returned to action with a fair performance for third in the Northam Cup.
With improvement for that effort and getting slightly further out in trip this week, he is my best bet on the program.

Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) – 7:25pm AEDT
Zipaway is two from two since returning from a break, and I thought that the Fairetha Stakes looked a perfect feature for him.
Zipaway hit the line impressively to score over the 1200m at Belmont back in September, and he was even more effective over this route at his latest.
This is another rise in class, but it also looks the next logical step for him to take, and we can have an each way play at current odds ($7 at publish).
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Zipaway
Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) – 8:02pm AEDT
I’m happy to stick with Valour Road when he steps out third-up in the Lee Steere Stakes.
Valour Road has been one of the more consistent sprinters over in the nation’s west for several seasons now, and he retains his zest for racing, having returned a winner of the Idyllic Prince Stakes back in August.
He was last seen finishing second, beaten just over a head in the Eurythmic Stakes here at Ascot, and I’m confident he’ll take further improvement for that hit-out.
Suggested Bet: No. 1 Valour Road
Print Hall Handicap (1200m) – 8:40pm AEDT
I’m pretty keen on Celebrity Prince in the last on Fairetha Stakes Day.
Celebrity Prince struck over 1200m at Belmont back in September, and he hasn’t been far away in any of his three subsequent starts, all in metro company.
He’s hard fit and just needs a little luck in running from the wide draw to figure in the finish once more.
