The team at Yarraman Park had an enjoyable time racing Flippant and Wednesday will herald the beginning of the next generation for the family when Fickle runs at Warwick Farm.
The daughter of I Am Invincible will make her debut in the $55,000 Furphy Plate (1100m).
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained two-year-old is the first foal from Flippant, a well-related daughter of Hinchinbrook, who won six of 24 races including a Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes and three Listed events, along with being placed twice at Group 2 level.
Fickle is the older sister to the filly who made $2 million at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier this year and the team at Yarraman Park is excited about seeing her at the track.
“We tend to try to give the ‘Vinnie’ fillies a bit of time but she showed a lot of precocity, so Peter and Paul opted to get her going nice and early,” Yarraman’s general manager Matt Scown said.
“She was meant to trial pretty much straight after that Gold Coast sale, but she was just a little immature and she had a bit of a grow, so she came home and we gave her a spell.
“The comments from Peter and Paul and the jockeys since are that’s she’s a really switched on, intelligent filly that doesn’t want to overdo it so we’re looking forward to her first start.”
Flippant is a daughter of the General Nediym mare Lady Beckworth, who is also the dam of Group 1 The Galaxy winner I Am Excited (by Snitzel).
Atlantic Jewel, and her young half-sister Commanding Jewel, are both close relations with Lady Beckworth a half-sister to the dam of that pair, Regard (Zabeel).
Fickle finished second to the speedy Facile in an 801m trial in November before her break, returned to win a 900m trial at Canterbury on June 26 before a narrow second placing to Stanislaus in a 1000m Wyong trial on July 10.
She will start from the second-widest barrier in Wednesday’s field of 14, for which she is second favourite behind Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Capitalist filly Love And Light.
The talent Fickle showed in that first trial played no small part in her younger sister’s Magic Millions price tag earlier this year Yarraman has another sister who will turn one on August 1.
Flippant failed to get in-foal to I Am Invincible last year, but will return to him this breeding season.
“From the types she throws by I Am Invincible she’s effectively married to him and the second foal making $2 million this year was phenomenal.
“That gave the syndicate a big buzz and with the third Vinnie filly weanling on the ground, the big decision is yet to be made on whether she’s going to be retained to race or put through public auction, but we’re in a good spot.”
