Blue Sky Bloodstock was always going to be at short odds to buy at least one yearling from the first crop of their high-class 2YO Group 1 performer Beneteau.
Sure enough, Blue Sky’s Julian Blaxland joined Melbourne trainer Mick Price to bid $170,000 for the Beneteau-Rocketing colt on the first day of the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. Rocketing, by Rock of Gibraltar, is a half-sister to Group 2-winning juvenile Indian Ocean.
The colt was offered by Musk Creek Farm which had paid $80,000 for him as a weanling and so completed a successful pin-hooking play.
Another 12 yearlings by Beneteau will be offered over the next five selling days, including Arrowfield’s colt from the Stravinsky mare Bella Cantata, a city-winning half-sister to Group 1 winner Inaflury.
Beneteau, by champion sire Redoute’s Choice from a stakes-placed sister of champion filly Alinghi, won the MRC Blue Diamond Prelude G3 at two, and was third in the Blue Diamond S. G1. He sired two crops before his premature death last January.
