Forgot You lands last stride win in Stutt Stakes 2021

Forgot You has stamped his class for the second time at The Valley to get up off the canvas and claim his first stakes race victory.

The Savabeel three-year-old scored over 1500m at The Valley on September 4 and returned to the track on Fright night to claim the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m).

Prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Forgot You is now likely to head to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 9 while the long-term aim for the colt is the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on October 30.

Forgot You carried the colours of Group 1 winner Sierra Sue and completed a big week for jockey Daniel Moor who landed his first Group 1 victory aboard that mare in last Saturday’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

After enjoying the one-one position behind the pace set by Sandy Prince, Forgot You ($4.60) was left flat-footed approaching the home turn before charging late to claim Mr Mozart ($4.80) on the line with Daily Bugle ($26) in third place.

“He looked like he was starting to hit a flat spot at the top of the corner, and I thought ‘oh he’s going to drop out here’, but to his credit he got some room,” Young said.

“There was pretty good tempo on and then they slowed up a little bit and I think he just takes a bit to get around that corner and then once he does balance up, he’s away.

“When you’re winning a Group 2 here over a mile, you’ve got to have a crack at the Caulfield Guineas.”

Forgot You is one of 12 three-year-olds that remains in contention for the Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 23.

“It’s better to pay early than the late fee later,” Young said.

“Sometimes these horses step up and you can’t win them if you’re not in them.”

What Moor learned was Forgot You can switch off in his races which is ideal heading towards the Derby.

“I’d say once he gets up in right trip, he won’t do that anymore,” Moor said.
