Foxy Frida to the fore at Flemington races

Consistency has been rewarded with Foxy Frida scoring a strong win at Flemington.

Andrew Noblet won’t be tempted to raise the bar too high, just yet, with Flemington winner Foxy Frida.

The ultra-consistent daughter of Foxwedge, broke through for her maiden city victory in the VRC Member Brian Lindsay Trophy (1400m) on Saturday.

Tracking the speed under Daniel Moor, Foxy Frida ($11) recorded a widening 1-¼ length win from Japery ($17) with the $2.70 favourite Four Leaf Riot a half-head away third.

Foxy Freda went into Saturday’s race the winner of only one race, a Ballarat maiden, but had finished second on three occasions from five starts.

Her previous outing, ahead of Saturday’s victory, was a luckless fifth at Sandown from a bad barrier.

Moor was able to take advantage of a better draw on Saturday and had Foxy Frida well positioned and when the leader lugged out in the straight was able to take advantage of the gap.

Saturday’s race was a heat of the Silver Bowl Series and Noblet said Foxy Frida would continue on through the series and hopefully to the final over 1600m at Flemington on July 3.

“I was rapt to get an inside draw with her,” Noblet said.

“I’ve been waiting for one of them for her to be able to sit in the first four or five and put herself there easily.

“She’s a quality horse maturing and getting better with every run and she’ll probably stick to the Silver Bowl series and work our way through there.

“She’s worked on heavy ground at home and she’s got through that well, so she looks like a nice horse through the winter.”

Moor said Foxy Frida was untapped and could possibly be unbeaten at this stage of her career.

“She hasn’t had the best of luck or the rub of the green, but she was effective today,” Moor said.

“I think there’s improvement in her and I’m just pleased to ride a winner for Andrew Noblet.”
