Frosty Rocks earns a shot at stakes company

It was a black and white result in The Agency Spring Preview as Frosty Rocks outclassed his opponents, but winning trainer Bjorn Baker was left seeing grey.

Baker saddled up two runners, Frosty Rocks and Fun Fact who are both almost white in colour, and admitted he confused the two in the run.

“I’ve got to watch the replay. I got the two greys mixed up,” Baker said.

“I’m having one of those days.

“They’re similar looking. They’re getting whiter, like me.”

Frosty Rocks ($3.80 fav) sat off leader Man Of Peace, ranging up to hit the lead in the straight and digging deep to score by three-quarters of a length over Gaulois ($11) with Oscar Zulu ($4.40) close-up in third.

The five-year-old had scored the bulk of his wins on wet tracks but showed he could also handle firm ground with Saturday’s Kembla Grange victory.

Baker said Frosty Rocks was a more complete racehorse this campaign and deserved a chance in black-type grade.

“It’s great to see him do that. He’s been a super horse for the stable and he’s stepped into open grade and performed well, so we’ll look for a stakes race now,” he said.

“We just have to have a bit of a think about it and see where we go to but he’s a social media darling and he’ll be another pin-up boy today.”

Josh Parr has ridden Frosty Rocks to his past two wins and believes he is ready to step up to stakes level.

“He’s just a beauty isn’t he? As far as I’m concerned, he has a home for life at my place when he’s retired,” Parr said.

“He’s definitely a more mature horse and the patience shown by the stable to get him to this point, they’re reaping the rewards now.

“He’s ready to take the next step.”

European import Cepheus finished an eye-catching fourth at his Australian debut and looks a bright spring prospect for trainer Matt Dunn, who produced Metropolitan hopeful Laure Me In for a victory earlier on the card.
