News:

Jockey Michael Cahill rode his 100th winner for the season and helped trainer Gillian Heinrich have a record-equalling five wins at Ipswich on Wednesday.

Heinrich’s five victories equalled the Queensland record for winners in a day at a TAB meeting held by Bruce McLachlan, Alan Bailey and Greg Mance.

McLachlan achieved the feat at Doomben in July 1985, Bailey at Doomben in 2003 and Mance at the Gold Coast in 1991.

However, while Cahill and Heinrich had reason to celebrate, jockey Tim Bell was down in the dumps after missing the meeting and the chance to ride five winners.

Cahill started the day on 99 winners Australia-wide and made it 100 on the Heinrich-trained Lush Belle ($4.40).

He later made it 101 on the Heinrich-trained In Full View ($2.30) after both horses led all the way.

Cahill, who rode 150 winners last season, has 98 Queensland winners and three interstate victories for the 2013-14 season.

Heinrich’s other winners were Storming Pleasure ($2.20) ridden by Larry Cassidy, Eliminator ($4.40) with Chris Munce aboard and Glen Colless’s mount Walkin’ Tall ($10).

Bell was to ride all of Heinrich’s winners but missed the meeting with a wrist injury.

Heinrich said she could remember training plenty of trebles but not four or five winners in a day.

“My horses usually like dry tracks like today’s,” she said.

“They are spoiled and don’t like getting their feet wet.

“I feel for Tim who does a lot of the riding for me. He’s stuck by us and it is a pity he has missed all these winners.”

All of Heinrich’s winners are owned by her husband Hoss Heinrich who is a leading builder on the Gold Coast.

“We have had a bit of stable clean out at the January sales and we will be having another one soon. We have a lot of young horses on the way up,” the trainer said.
