Sydney sprinter Driefontein holds a marginal call on favouritism for the Group One Goodwood after drawing perfectly for the $500,000 race.
Driefontein won the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on April 26 and has drawn barrier three for her bid to win South Australia’s big sprint double.
Platelet won the Sangster Stakes and Goodwood last year but will start her bid for a third Group One win from barrier 17 but will move in two gates if the emergencies don’t gain a run.
The Darren Weir-trained mare is a $7.50 chance in early TAB betting.
Sistine Demon lost Goodwood favouritism after drawing barrier 20, leaving apprentice Jamie Kah with a tough task in her first Group One ride.
Sistine Demon is on the second line of betting at $7 along with the resurgent Miracles Of Life, who will attempt to claim her second Group One win at her last start before she is sold at a broodmare auction next month.
Sessions will be one of new Darley trainer John O’Shea’s first Group One runners but jockey Steven Arnold will have to negotiate a passage from barrier 16.
Trainer Jason Warren will try blinkers on Bel Sprinter in an attempt to address his barrier issues but has drawn the inside gate for the third time in a Group One race.
Jockey Ben Melham will resume riding after a five-month break at the Goodwood meeting and will partner the Wez Hunter-trained Smokin’ Joey from barrier 12.
Local trainer Richard Jolly won the Group One South Australian Derby with Kushadashi last Saturday and has a chance to win his second big race in a week with Karacatis.
Karacatis finished fourth in last year’s Goodwood from barrier six but jockey Mark Zahra will have to contend with barrier 19, which prompted the TAB to post the sprinter as a $26 chance to win Saturday’s race.
