1. SHOOT OUT
Tackles the mile first up but has had three barrier trials in readiness for his return, the latest of which was a solid hit-out over 1200m twelve days ago which he won by 3 ¾ Lovely draw here should see him in a good position throughout and he is a horse that has the class to be able to win first up over the mile.
2. RANGIRANDOO
“Rangi” returned to racing a fortnight ago in the Tramway Stakes doing his best work last when finishing fourth (beaten 2 ¼ ) behind Tagus and Kontiki Park (who started favourite in the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle on Wednesday but was unplaced). Will be better for that run and from five second up runs, has only missed the place once. Awkward draw here but showed enough first up to be given a chance here.
3. DANLEIGH
Age hasn’t wearied this 9yo who recorded his tenth career win last start in the G2 Chemlsford Stakes at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago. He’s fit, in form, has a lovely draw and like last start, the pattern of today’s race might suit him again. Interestingly Bowman, who was aboard last start, has opted to ride the stable-mate, Shoot Out here.
4. SOMEPIN ANYPIN
He’ll be the leader as was the case at his last start in the Chelmsford Stakes before he struggled in the straight and finished fourth, beaten 3.4 lengths behind Danleigh. Has been unplaced at his two previous attempts at WFA and hard to see him holding off a couple of his challengers here on his most recent effort.
5. SECRET ADMIRER
She’s finished second at her two runs back from a spell – beaten a half length by Pinwheel and then ¾ to Danleigh in the Chelmsford. Of her three career wins, two of them have been at this track and distance and both Group 1’s – The Flight Stakes and Epsom Handicap, so she’ll welcome the return of racing to Randwick. Third up last prep, narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Coolmore classic carrying 58kg, she’s an obvious threat.
6. YOSEI
Triple Group 1 winning mare who has had two runs back from a spell, finishing well down the track in the Cockram Stakes (on Heavy) and her most recent start, an improved sixth of nine behind Zurella. The step up from a Mare’s race to WFA here will test her and it has been eleven starts since her last win.
7. QUINTESSENTIAL
NZ mare who came across for the Brisbane winter carnival and won the G1 Oaks in good style before chasing Brambles valiantly, finishing second against the boys in the QLD Derby. Resumed in the G3 Tramway (1400) but after settling at the tail, never raised her backer’s hopes. The step up to the mile can only assist but the class will be against her.
8. ALL TOO HARD
The only 3yo in the race who hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations placed on him as a 2yo. After a disappointing effort in his most recent start, a fifth in the G3 Run To The Roses, connections opted for this race over the $1M G1 Golden Rose last week, claiming that a mile will suit. He’s taking on some experienced and well credentialed WFA performers here today. What to do from here if he fails?
OVERVIEW
Somepin Anypin leads them away with the possibility of Rangirangdoo pressing forward from his wide draw. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with All Too Hard. He normally gets back but, with only 50.5kgs on his back and the possibility of a moderate tempo, the may be a bit more aggressive than usual. Danleigh ($4.60), is in good form and his fit, should get a lovely trail but may need some luck at the point of the turn as I picture him behind the leader and he’s better when able to be wound up into a race. Shoot Out ($4.00) will be handy through-out and given the hard hit-out he had is third and most recent trial, I think he’ll be ready enough to produce a big run here. Secret Admirer ($3.80) is better suited here I believe than at Warwick Farm last start and in early markets, we’re able to get a slightly better price than that race which appeals.Favouring the mare, Secret Admirer here at the quote and given we come back to her favourite track/trip.
