Golden Rose Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

Queensland three-year-old Rothfire sits at the top of the small nine-horse field for the 2020 De Bortoli Wins Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Robert Heathcote trained Rothfire will run the short priced favourite in the 1400m Group 1 for the three-year-olds after scoring a brilliant win at his first start in Sydney in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago.

Team Hawkes will saddle up two runners, Ole Kirk and North Pacific, who filled the placings behind Rothfire in the Run To The Rose.

We have analysed the entire field for the $1 million Group 1 for the three-year-olds and our complete 2020 Golden Rose tips can be found below!

Rothfire

Queensland’s Group 1 winning three-year-old Rothfire has been installed as the odds on favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Group 1 Golden Rose after scoring a brilliant win in the Group 2 Run To The Rose at Rosehill two weeks ago.

The Robert Heathcote trained Rothsay gelding was the winner of the Group 1 J.J. Atkins over 1400m at Eagle Farm during the 2020 Brisbane Winter Carnival and he showed that he was ready to step back up that distance with a brilliant win over 1200m at Rosehill last start.

Rothfire is the one to beat.

King’s Legacy

Kings’s Legacy was a dual Group 1 winner at Randwick during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival with victories in the Inglis’ Sires (1400m) and in the Champagne Stakes (1600m).

The Team Snowden trained colt never threatened first up when last of seven in the Group 2 Run For The Rose over 1200m but will be better suited over the 1400m and expect a better showing.

Mamaragan

Mamaragan is fitter for two runs back from a spell but has to improve on his second up sixth in the Run To The Rose at Rosehill last start.

The John Thompson trained Wandjina colt will wear the winkers for the first time.

Ole Kirk

Ole Kirk has been runner up at his two runs back this campaign and can figure amongst the minor money again following his latest second in the Run To The Rose.

The Team Hawkes trained Ole Kirk’s only win has been over 1100m but he did run on from the back of the small field at the end of the 1200m and jockey Tommy Berry is sticking with him.

North Pacific

North Pacific is the winner of two of his four race starts, his latest a dominant 5.3 lengths in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on August 15.

The Brazen Beau colt was solid to the line last start when third in the Run To The Rose and another bold showing is on the cards.

Global Quest

Global Quest ran a solid race first up when second in the Listed Dulcify Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago and the 1400m of the Golden Rose won’t be a problem.

Could figure in the minor money at good odds.

Peltzer

Peltzer had handy form as a two-year-old before a break with three wins and then resumed for a second in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 29.

Peltzer then finished fourth in the Run To The Rose and has to improve more than three lengths to be a threat here.

Sauvester

Sauvestre is way out of his class here, coming off a fourth in a 1300m Randwick BenchMark 72 Handicap three weeks ago.

Yardstick

Yardstick set the pace last start before fading to finish fifth in the Listed Dulcify Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill a fortnight ago and is one of the outsiders of the Golden Rose field.
