Granny Red Shoes to target next years Magic Millions

Classy filly Granny Red Shoes is likely to chase more black type success during the winter carnival after her runaway win in the Listed Oxlade Stakes (1200m) at Caloundra.

Leading jockey Jeff Lloyd angled Granny Red Shoes ($4.60) to the outside at the 150m mark and swept clear to score by two lengths from Axella ($14), with Spirit’s Choice ($15) a neck away third.

Trainer Toby Edmonds will give serious thought to starting Granny Red Shoes in the Listed Mercedes-Benz Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 23 before she completes her winter campaign.

“After her next start she’ll come back a really good three-year-old,” stable spokesman Trent Edmonds said.

“Whether we take her to Melbourne for some Group races for the fillies or hold on and wait for the Magic Millions next January, I’m not too sure, but she’s got a lot of upside and is a really good filly.”

A plan devised by Edmonds and Lloyd to ride the filly patiently went perfectly to script.

“As we found out last start, riding her cold suits her and even though she had a wide barrier we just let her find her feet and Jeff rode her perfectly,” Edmonds said.

“He cut the corner and saved a bit of ground, got the splits at the right time and she won with good authority.”

Since being transferred to Edmonds, Granny Red Shoes has won two of her three starts for owners Segenhoe Thoroughbreds.
