Horse Racing News: Grantham hopes to unveil another exciting 3YO

Olympic Park made the best possible start to his racing career and stamped himself as one to watch for trainer Michael Grantham and owner-breeder, Bob Peters.

On debut at Bunbury on Monday over 1400m, the Ocean Park three-year-old turned for home in last position, but jumped out of the ground late and went to the line untouched.

Once jockey Clint Jonston-Porter angled off the fence and found clear galloping room, Olympic Park responded with a sharp turn of foot that showed signs of a promising horse.

As good as Olympic Park’s win was and as delighted as Grantham could have been, he’s a big fan of With Discretion and believes he holds an edge over his stable mate.

Off one trial, With Discretion struts his stuff for the first time in The Races WA Maiden (1300m) at Northam and Grantham likes his chances.

“He’s tracked through good and pulled up great from his debut trial,” Grantham said on Tabradio Drive.

“This is his next stepping stone and I don’t think I’ll watch it; I’ll wait for the result.

“I think he smokes Olympic Park, but if he doesn’t do it, he doesn’t do it.

“He beats him on the track and is up there with him.”

With Discretion has drawn barrier seven of 12 and links up with William Pike for his debut.

He’s currently the $2.35 favourite with Tabtouch, in from $2.90.

Meanwhile, Olympic Park will be on easy street for a few weeks in the paddock before returning for the Ascot Pinnacles carnival.

“I hope he comes back and reproduces what he did the other day and I think he can,” Grantham said.

“He’s just like an old man in his brain, but his body is a young horse.

“It’s a good thing to have.

“You can lead him around the shops like a puppy dog if you really wanted to.

“That’s the horse he is and good horses have those traits.”

Frigid will go around in Saturday’s Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes (1200m) at Ascot, but Grantham believes the mare will come into her own as she steps up in distance.
