WA Guineas favourite back with Parnham

Top WA Guineas (1600m) contender September Born has made his way back to trainer Neville Parnham’s stable as he gears up for an upcoming Belmont campaign.

The talented Playing God gelding finished eighth behind Storyville in last year’s Group 2 event. Following the race, stewards determined he was lame, explaining his underwhelming performance.

His inability to place meant he missed out on a run in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) two weeks later.

Trainer Neville Parnham is pleased with the early stages of September Born’s preparation.

“He’s back in work,” Neville Parnham told TABradio.

“He looks great.

“He’s nice and sound and the foot he had a problem with when he pulled up lame in the Guineas seems to have blown out and come back.

“I’m looking forward to this campaign.”

Before the WA Guineas, September Born secured a dominant victory in the Fairetha Stakes (1400m) and finished second in the Belgravia Stakes (1200m).

Unlike his strategy with 2022 Fairetha Stakes winner Bustler, Parnham opted not to bring September Born back early for Weight-For-Age races. Instead, he is focusing on the Belmont season.

“He will probably head towards a Belmont Guineas,” he said.

“There’s a couple of races in between.

“He’s still down a bit in the grades, so we can place him fairly easily in a 72 plus or a 66 plus if we have to come away from the three-year-old races.”

Meanwhile, Parnham is also expecting stablemates Bustler and Zipaway to return to training within the next week.
