Huetor looking to add to impressive Australian record

Huetor will be out to add to his already impressive Australian record when he lines up for the second time at Eagle Farm

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained former French galloper runs in the Group 2 Q22 (2200m) on Saturday after registering a breakthrough win at Group 1 level last time out.

That victory came in the rescheduled Doomben Cup (2100m) at Eagle Farm on May 28.

Huetor came to Australia as the winner of two of his nine starts in France, but since joining Team Snowden has extended that record to six wins from 15 starts.

During his first campaign for the Snowdens, Huetor went unbeaten in three starts, scoring at Newcastle, Rosehill and Randwick before being put aside for an autumn campaign.

Placed first-up on heavy ground at Randwick, Huetor was sent to Queensland where he finished fourth to Zaaki in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast before his Doomben Cup success.

Paul Snowden said he wasn’t surprised by Huetor’s win at Eagle Farm.

“We thought the horse had it in him,” Snowden said.

“His first two runs had been on testing ground which he’s not a fan of, he hacks through it.

“There was more to the run at the Gold Coast than what meets the eye.

“We were quietly confident that the favourite (Zaaki) at Eagle Farm had done a bit of travelling and a bit of racing and whether he would turn up, knowing our horse would be coming into his own.”

With 16 acceptors for Saturday’s race as against nine opponents in the Doomben Cup, Snowden said he was aware there was a different make up to Saturday’s field.

But Snowden pointed out Huetor was in excellent shape for Saturday’s contest.

“There is a few more numbers wise and the make-up of it is a little different than what it was the other day,” Snowden said.

“But we just have to worry about what our horse does rather than worrying about all the other things.”
