Ipswich Cup to suit Religify

Champion trainer Chris Waller will consider backing up Religify in the Ipswich Cup after his all-the-way win in the Wayne Wilson Quality at Doomben on Saturday.

Jockey Hugh Bowman took Religify, the $3.80 Crown Bet favourite, to the lead soon after the start and the gelding held his advantage all the way to the post to score by 1-1/4 lengths from Crack Me Up ($23).

Well-backed Moher ($3.90) finished a half-neck away third.

Waller is keen for Religify to remain in Queensland while the tracks are firm.

“The Ipswich Cup is on next week and it’s a race that would suit him so I’ll give it some thought in the next few days,” Waller said.

“There’s another race here in a fortnight over a mile that would suit him as well so there are some good options coming up.”

Waller was prepared to overlook Religify’s defeat in the Lord Mayor’s Cup at Eagle Farm on May 27 at his previous run.

“The track was just to wet for him that day but give him a dry track and he’s a completely different horse,” he said.

“Today he was well rated by Hugh Bowman and he was well suited by the conditions of this race.”

Religify’s win took Waller’s prize money tally for the season past the $24 million barrier.
