Jacquinot right for 2022 Golden Slipper tilt

Jacquinot will make his way to Sydney later this week with co-trainer Mick Price confirming the Blue Diamond Stakes third placegetter would run in the 2022 Golden Slipper.

The son of Rubick ran a brave race when trapped wide in the Diamond, but beaten just over a neck behind Daumier, but Price reported that he had come through the run well and would head straight to the $5 million Group 1 Slipper (1200m).

Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr, was keen to get the colt up there later this week to not only test his adaptability right-handed but also give him a feel for wet tracks.

“He’ll go to Sydney,” Price said. “I’ll probably give him four or five quiet days then send him up to Rosehill and work him on the grass up at Rosehill for two reasons.

“One, to have a look that way of going and, two, I’m assuming it’s going to be wet. I’m not going to get a wet track I Melbourne am I?

“He’ll have three weeks between runs, no trial, straight into the Slipper.”

The Diamond was Jacquinot’s third start in a career that started with an explosive win at Caulfield on Boxing Day and also involves a fifth placing in the Blue Diamond Prelude when he was slowly away and encountered a chequered passage in the home straight.

Jacquinot is a $21 chance in TAB’s Golden Slipper odds, which is headed by Coolangatta at $4.50.
