Jockey cops suspension for failing to ride out favourite

Jockey Michael Hellyer has been suspended for 21 days for failing to ride short-priced favourite Amiche to the line at Eagle Farm.

Amiche ($1.35) finished third behind Woman of Gold and La Jument in race four on Wednesday.

There was a nose between Amiche and La Jument for second.

Stewards found Hellyer guilty of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the Class 3 Handicap (1200m), an action which they believe cost the David Vandyke-trained Amiche second place.

Hellyer was suspended from midnight on July 22 to the same time on August 12.
