Handing John Reynolds his best win in racing, Big Shot Paddy flew the local flag proudly when he defeated Perth gallopers Vintage Stock and Divine Shadow.
Sent out a $14 chance, Big Shot Paddy came from seventh position on the turn for jockey Chris Graham and won by 1 ¼ lengths.
Reynolds is hoping to replicate that success at Ascot on Saturday when Big Shot Paddy contests the $100,000 Eurythmic Stakes (2150m).
Up against the likes of Group 1 champions Come Play With Me and Trap For Fools and the in form Marocchino, the Musket gelding faces a monumental task.
Reynolds isn’t underestimating the challenge facing his six-year-old, but admits he’s looking forward to the challenge of another upset victory.
“It’s going to be hard to beat horses like Come Play With Me and Trap For Fools,” Reynolds told The Races WA.
“But he pulled up that good from the Geraldton Cup and the Geraldton season is now over, so there are not too many options.
“We have thrown him in at the deep end, but this will be the final run of his campaign.
“This is the best I’ve ever had him and why not roll the dice and have a go.
“It’s no good dying wondering and why not have a crack.
“He is rock hard fit and who knows, anything can happen on the day.
“Troy Turner, who has ridden him a lot, always told me he was capable of winning in town.
“He’s had a couple of races there and has been unlucky a few times.”
Big Shot Paddy has drawn barrier three and is $17 with Tabtouch.
Graham, who has ridden Big Shot Paddy to two wins and a second from his past three starts, retains the ride.
“I’ve stuck with Chris,” Reynolds said.
“He knows him now and has ridden him well.”
Marocchino, coming off a winning hat trick, including the Albany Cup (2100m) and Diggers Cup (1800m) is the $3 favourite.
Trap For Fools is $3.40 and Come Play With Me $3.90.
Final Chill is the only other runner in single figures ($8.50).
