Starry Legend short odds in the VOBIS Gold Rush

John Sadler believes Starry Legend could be something special and is looking forward to the two-year-old stepping out in the VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m) at Bendigo on Saturday.

Starry Legend, owned by Hong Kong-based Everest slot holder Boniface Ho, was successful on debut at Sandown last month in impressive fashion.

Sadler expects Starry Legend to be winning again, although Saturday’s line-up is a tougher affair than what the colt met on debut.

“My feelings are he’ll win and we’ll get a bit better idea of how good he is,” Sadler said.

Starry Legend has had to overcome adversity to make it to the track, suffering a hind leg injury and after recovering from that he required stomach surgery for a bout of colic which in turn has cost him a tilt at the rich Sydney carnival.

With the owner of Starry Legend holding an Everest slot, Sadler said the $15 million race in October could be on the agenda.

Classique Legend won The Everest last year for Ho and is now in Hong Kong continuing his career.

Sadler has a number of horses for Ho and accepts that at anytime they could be shipped off to Hong Kong.

“But if he’s got a good one, a really good one, it would be a horse that he would like to keep down here and develop,” Sadler said.

It’s pie-in-sky stuff at the moment, but he could be an Everest horse, or he could be a Group 3 horse, and if he is just a Group 3 horse you could see him go to Hong Kong.

“But if he shows he’s a Group 1 horse, he could go to The Everest and then off to the Coolmore.

“It’s all a pipedream at the moment. We’ve got to get through Saturday first.”
