Jordan Childs after more Group success at Flemington

Jockey Jordan Childs has the chance to add another Group 2 win to his resume when he teams with Ganbare at Flemington.

Childs has been in good form of late but had to make a tough decision on two talented horses from the Grahame Begg stable that contested Group 2 races last weekend.

He scored on Passive Aggressive in the Canterbury Stakes at Randwick but was forced to watch on as Nonconformist took out the Blamey Stakes at Flemington.

Unfortunately for Childs he could not be in two places at once.

“It was great to go up to Sydney and ride Passive Aggressive,” Childs said.

“I was always going to follow her, and it’s a pity Nonconformist had to run on the same day.

“He has been a good horse for me, but unfortunately, I couldn’t be in two places at once.”

Childs does a fair amount of the riding for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable in Melbourne and has picked up the ride on Ganbare for the trainers in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

He partnered the Waterhouse and Bott-trained Soul Choice to win the Listed Strutt Stakes in Hobart last month while also riding winners for the stable at Pakenham and Ballarat in the past week.

Childs admits to not knowing a great deal about Ganbare, but was happy to hear Waterhouse will be in Melbourne to watch the two-year-old race on Saturday.

Ganbare has raced three times, scoring a debut win over 1000m at Canberra in January before a midfield finish in the Inglis Millennium on February 11.

At his most recent start, Ganbare finished eighth in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 25.

“I do a bit of work for Gai and Adrian at Flemington, and I cantered him around on Monday morning,” Childs said.

“He’s a nice horse from what I got to feel of him, but it’s a tough race.”
