King Mufhasa wins Futurity Stakes

Star New Zealand galloper King Mufhasa landed his ninth Group One win with an all-the-way victory in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Perfectly rated in front by Nash Rawiller, the Pentire seven-year-old made it back-to-back Group Ones in Australia in the $500,000 1400m feature after his win in the Toorak Handicap (1600m) in the spring.

The win was King Mufhasa’s 18th in 49 starts which have also yielded 11 placings for prizemoney in excess of $2.5 million.

“It’s good to see him go back-to-back (in Australian Group Ones),” trainer Stephen McKee said.

“Nash was able to dictate the race.”

Rawiller was rapt in the hardy gelding’s performance.

“Full credit to him,” he said.

“He feels very good, he’s a true professional.

“He makes his own luck.”

Last year’s Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker was a gallant second with three-year-old Adamantium third.
