Jockey Kyle Wilson-Taylor begins Premiership quest on Undeniable

Kyle Wilson-Taylor has had to watch as Jaden Lloyd and Leah Kilner made flying starts to the new season while he was on the sidelines suspended and he was happy to be back in the thick of the action on Saturday.

Wilson-Taylor opened his account when Undeniable was too slick for her rivals in the Fillies and Mares Class 3 Plate at Eagle Farm, giving the apprentice rider an armchair ride off the inside draw.

Wilson-Taylor is favoured to win the apprentice’s title in Brisbane this season and admitted he’s had itchy feet watching the momentum Lloyd and Kilner have built in the past three weeks.

“It’s been a bit hard to watch, but it’s good to be back now,” he said.

Undeniable is trained by Matt Smith, who took her back home for a run at Hawkesbury after she ran third at Eagle Farm on July 17.

Meanwhile, in-form mare Champagne Aunty is likely to be given her chance in the Toowoomba Cup next month after making it three on end at Eagle Farm in the Class 6 Handicap (1835m).

She continues trainer Steve Tregea’s lethal strike rate in town and both Tregea and jockey Larry Cassidy believe she is now looking for further, which she will find at Toowoomba.

Cassidy said she had become more dour with recent racing, so the extra distance is what she’s looking for.

Tregea said he has never won his home town Cup, but would love to do so with this mare.

Taylor Marshall took the shortcuts in the Benchmark 72 Handicap to land Top Order a winner for trainer Kim Anderson.

While others searched for runs wider on the track, Marshall opted to stick to the inside when Top Order was under the pump coming to the turn.

In a deceptive finish, he gained the judge’s verdict over the well-tried Lunasnit, who finished widest on the track under Ron Stewart.
