We take a look at Wednesday’s Launceston Cup in Tasmania which headlines the racing around the country.
Some of the Apple Isle’s best horses will step out alongside a quality contingent of interstate raiders and the Launceston Cup shapes as an intriguing betting race.
When managed to find the Hobart Cup trifecta a couple of weeks ago and I’m confident of a similar result in the 2021 Launceston Cup tips below.
Suggested Bets
- 3 Units straight out #5 Barade
- Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
LAUNCESTON CUP – WINNER
Barade came from a long way back to fill the minors in Hobart last time out and the Launceston Cup looms as the perfect target for him.
The Havana Gold gelding has been a model of consistency this prep and has found form around some quality horses up and down the east coast.
Having won in BM80 company at Flemington in November, Barade finished second in a BM90 race at The Valley and won in Brisbane prior to his last effort.
He’ll strip fitter for his last-start effort and will take plenty of beating under the conditions of this race.
LAUNCESTON CUP – 2ND
Classic Weiwei was very impressive in the Hobart Cup and looks the real value in Launceston Cup betting at his current price ($8 at publish).
The Shamus Award gelding has somewhat flown under the radar this prep, but he has been very competitive in decent races and won a BM70 at Caulfield in impressive fashion three starts back.
The form around him has been franked on several occasions and I simply cannot understand why he has been priced as he has been.
LAUNCESTON CUP – 3RD
He is clearly racing well and is more than up to winning the Launceston Cup, I just wonder if Double You Tee will be feeling topweight at the end of a mile and a half.
The Written Tycoon gelding has been a great horse for the Patrick Payne stable throughout his career and has continued to improve with each start back this time, culminating in his impressive win in the Hobart Cup.
I think he’ll race well again, just with a small query over the rise in weight and barrier 10.
LAUNCESTON CUP – 4TH
Toorak Affair has been racing well again this preparation and looks to be the leading local in the Launceston Cup field.
The Toorak Toff mare recorded consecutive wins in the Listed Conquering Stakes and the Listed Tasmanian Stakes three back four starts back, and has finished just behind the placegetters at her last two.
Anthony Darmanin has options from the rails draw and Toorak Affair can fight out the finish.
