Lightning Handicap 2014 – Long odds runner declared

Trainer Desleigh Forster added extra spice to Super Saturday by declaring her galloper Adebisi will regain his crown as Brisbane’s best short-course horse from usurper Cape Kidnappers in the Lightning Handicap 2014.

Adebisi and Cape Kidnappers are set to clash again in the Listed Lightning Hcp (1000m) at Eagle Farm which is generally considered the short-course championship for Brisbane gallopers.

At their last meeting in the Chief de Beers Hcp (1110m) at Doomben two weeks ago Cape Kidnappers beat Adebisi by 2-1/4 lengths.

On paper it looked a comprehensive beating but Forster has been bubbling over waiting for a rematch.

“Bring it on. We were first up and came from an outside alley which is suicidal from the 1110m start at Doomben,” Forster said.

“Also we had to give Cape Kidnappers 4kgs and he was drawn an inside alley. This time there is only one-and-a-half kilos between us and we are both drawn in close.”

Forster said Adebisi had to be ridden hard to lead in the Chief de Beers but this time would be able to work to the lead in his own time.

“I am not knocking Cape Kidnappers but everyone was wrapping him last time and forgetting what a good run it was by Adebisi.”

To add extra zest to the race 1000m specialist Rocky King makes his return to racing in the Lightning.

Rocky King has won 10 races between 1000-1050m and five of those have been at Eagle Farm.

Trainer Tom Bourke reports Rocky King has done well since winning a Deagon trial on May 22.

Last year’s Lightning winner Howmuchdoyouloveme is back with original trainer Con Karakatsanis and has been lumped with 61kg.

He won the last year’s race with 59.5kg when he came from the outside alley.

Howmuchdoyouloveme is also a 1000m specialist winning two of his three starts at the trip in fast times.
