Lindsay Park with G1 chances in Queensland

A step up in distance should be a plus for Fundamentalist in the Group One J J Atkins Plate with co-trainer Ben Hayes believing the filly is poised to run a huge race.

Fundamentalist, who has finished strongly for second in stakes races in Adelaide in her past two starts, is one of four horses from the Lindsay Park stable scheduled to contest Group One races at Doomben on Saturday.

Spieth is on target for the Stradbroke Handicap while Rezealient and Won Won Too are headed to the Queensland Derby.

Ben Hayes said he was looking forward to seeing Fundamentalist in the J J Atkins (1600m).

“I really think she’s going to be a nice horse and she deserves a win,” Hayes said.

“She has been a victim of tempo in her past couple of starts in Adelaide.

“She’s been running the best closing sectionals and she looks a million dollars at the moment.

“She trialled the other day in Sydney and went really well and I think she’s in it right up to her ears.

“I think she’s been looking for the mile.”

Spieth was withdrawn from the Kingsford Smith Cup last Saturday week after he pricked his foot but Hayes said he was on target for the Stradbroke.

“He’s back on track from his little foot problem,” Hayes said.

“We were really happy with his run in the Doomben 10,000 and he’s come on so we definitely think he’s got a chance.”

Rezealient has finished second in his past three starts – the Galilee Series Final (2400m), VRC St Leger (2800m) and SA Derby (2500m).

“His prep was for the St Leger and he’s come right back in distance to 2200 metres, so it’s a bit back-to-front but he’s going really well,” Hayes said.

“His run in South Australia was excellent. We just freshened him, kept him back at the farm and sent him up last week to Sydney.

“He’s rock hard fit.”

Hayes said Won Won Too, fifth in the SA Derby, was similar.

“I think he deserves his shot,” he said.

“We’ve done the same with him and just freshened them up and I think he’ll go well. He’s always competitive.”
