Local sport and volunteer groups will lead from start to finish at the TABtouch Toodyay Picnic Race Day on Sunday.
Thanks to Community TAB fundraising, winners from the annual race day on 26 September will be the Toodyay Lions Club, Avon Valley Shotokan Karate Club, the local St John’s Ambulance branch, Toodyay Cricket Club and the Coondle-Nunile Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.
Toodyay Race Club Chair John Prater said community groups providing important services to the area were the focus of fundraising efforts on race day, with Community TAB matching funds up to $5000.
In a two-way support partnership, people from each of the groups will be helping with activities on-course throughout the day.
“The Community TAB program brings in much-needed funds to local community groups and we have seen the positive impact throughout our community due to the partnership,” John said.
“Activities on the day will include free children’s entertainment, live music, Fashions on the Field and much more. It really is a day that offers something for everyone.
“Each of the community groups we have chosen to support not only provide services that assist with the running of the Toodyay Race Club each year, but they also provide vital services to the Toodyay community.
“We value the contribution they make and providing this additional funding is the least we can do to thank them.”
RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program had been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA’s race clubs based in regional communities.
“RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate,” Jeff said.
“Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community and many organisations are supported as part of the program.”
The Community TAB dollar matching program began in 2015 and has since raised more than $700,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
