London Lolly gave both her sire and dam a milestone success with her powerful, all-the-way victory in the $120,000 MVRC St Albans S. 1200m LR on Friday evening.
The 2YO filly is the 13th stakeswinner for her sire Charge Forward, and the first stakeswinner, among six winning progeny, for her dual Group 1-winning dam Lovely Jubly (by Lion Hunter). It has been a good week for the family, as London Lolly’s year-older half-brother and stablemate Chautauqua broke his maiden at Geelong on Thursday.
London Lolly is Charge Forward’s eighth juvenile stakeswinner, and his ninth stakeswinner from a mare by a son of Danehill.
Bred by the Throsby family’s Woodbury Pty Ltd, she is raced by Joyce and Edwina Throsby and has progressed rapidly in her three starts. She began with a relegated fourth in Listed company at Caulfield, was then runner-up at Moonee Valley on 14 February and now has stakes-winning status, two starts earlier than her famous mother.
Trainer Wayne Hawkes said the filly had always displayed ability, but had not enjoyed the best of luck in her first couple of runs.
“Everything fell into place for her tonight. She has now won a Listed Race so job complete.”
Jockey Glen Boss was impressed with the filly’s performance. “She jumped, controlled the race and put away a very good field.”
London Lolly is the third 2YO stakeswinner this season for the Hawkes stable, after Group 2 winner Mossfun and Arrowfield graduate Gold Force.
Charge Forward has six colts catalogued for next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Sale, all but one of them bred, like London Lolly, from mares by Danehill sons. Arrowfield will present four of them, including the first foal of another Group 1-winning mare, Alverta (by Flying Spur) – view the Arrowfield Easter draft.
