Chris Waller’s training career reached new heights at last year’s Lord Mayor’s Cup meeting and the premier trainer has numbers on his side for another potential windfall on Saturday.

As part of a record-breaking season, Waller trained five winners at the corresponding Sydney meeting in 2013.

And with Waller having 19 acceptors across seven of the eight races on Saturday, it would be unwise to write off his chances of a similar haul as racing returns to his home track for the first time since the Golden Slipper meeting on April 5.

Waller’s contingent includes six runners in the feature race, the $100,000 Lord Mayor’s Cup, an event he won last year with Moriarty.

He has accepted with topweight Permit, I’m Imposing, 2012 placegetter Wazn, Secessio, Sacred Flyer and Madam Nash.

“They are no superstars but they have all been great stable stalwarts who have won a lot of prize money,” Waller said.

I’m Imposing, caught on a limb before finishing fifth in the JRA Plate at Randwick, has been made the $3.20 favourite ahead of Kitten On The Run at $7 and Maluckyday at $8.

An ex-Lloyd Williams-owned import, I’m Imposing won the Summer Cup at Randwick in December and he resumed in bright order with a minor placing to Weary in the Doncaster Prelude at Rosehill.

“I am probably leaning to I’m Imposing because he was unlucky last time and his first-up run was very good,” Waller said.

Kitten On The Run, also an acceptor at Flemington, is an in-form import trained by Peter Moody.

The four-year-old broke through for his first Australian win at Caulfield two starts ago before finishing third to Correggio and subsequent Wagga Wagga Gold Cup winner Trade Commissioner.
