News:

Dreamforce hardly underperformed as a colt, but trainer John Thompson has already noticed a marked improvement since he has been gelded.

The five-year-old won three and was placed at four of his first 10 starts but since resuming last month he appears a more complete performer.

“He was consistent earlier in his career then as he got a bit coltish his form was a bit patchy,” Thompson said

“They gelded him and he’s come back quite genuine. He’s always had the ability and it’s definitely turned him around. His attitude is good now.”

Dreamforce was second in his comeback in a Benchmark 80 Handicap (1300m) and then won a Benchmark 83 Handicap when stepping up to 1500m on November 25.

He will run in Saturday’s Benchmark 84 Handicap (1600m) at Randwick alongside stablemate Reneged.

Although Dreamforce has a wide gate, Thompson is confident he can be a force.

“He’s got really good gate speed and he’s the type of horse that makes his own luck,” he said.

“Wherever he ends up, he ends up. He’ll be positive and go forward but he doesn’t have to lead.”

Thompson hopes Reneged will benefit from being back on his home track after a battling eighth in the Goulburn Cup (1600m).

“He’s been going OK and Randwick will suit him a bit better,” he said.

Thompson also saddles up seven-year-old Last Wish in the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m).

Thompson acknowledged the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Broadside was a worthy favourite after returning from a let-up to win the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) a fortnight ago.

“He’ll be hard to beat. He’s won the Newcastle Cup and won well first-up,” Thompson said.
