Magic Millions Classic on the agenda for Amazing Eagle

The Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) is firmly on the agenda for unraced two-year-old Amazing Eagle, who won his Rosehill trial on Tuesday morning by 7.5 lengths, in a clear morning-fastest time of 53.61 seconds, the next best being Zoubaby for Richard and Will Freedman at 54.26 seconds.

Amazing Eagle showed good speed to lead his 900m heat under Tim Clark and opened up a big margin in the straight under a hold, with the TAB quick to slash his price from $101 to $21 for January’s feature at the Gold Coast.

Gerald Ryan won the Magic Millions Snippets in 2012 with Schiffer but neither he nor his training partner Sterling Alexiou have won the 2yo Classic before.

“He trialled well. He’s always shown good promise,” Ryan said.

“Won’t be another trial, just depends if we decide tomorrow how he’s pulled up whether we’re going to try the Magic Millions or not and when he’d go to the races… he does everything right, his fitness levels are good.”

Amazing Eagle is by Capitalist, who won the Magic Millions 2yo Classic in 2016 and would go on to win a hot Golden Slipper over Yankee Rose and Flying Artie. Capitalist is renowned for producing two-year-old types and Ryan said the colt had always shown the right attributes.

“He got here back in May, he had a good attitude and he moved well, he went out, came back, gave him a jump out, went well, tipped him out again, we were going to try and get him ready early for the Breeders (Plate) but I wasn’t quite happy with him,” Ryan said.

Owned by John Moore, who trained in Hong Kong for some 50 years, winning 37 Group Ones in his time including with superstars Able Friend and Beauty Generation, Amazing Eagle was sourced by Moore Bloodstock, which is owned by John’s son, George Moore.

George Moore said on social media after the trial that the plan was to try and go to the Magic Millions “if he can get in”, something Ryan echoed.

“If he got there, he’d go there, if not there are other races around.”
