Magic Millions Guineas Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

The 2020 Magic Millions Guineas is one of two feature races at the Gold Coast on Saturday and it is another contest that is packed full of quality.

Alligator Blood has stamped himself as one of the best three-year-olds in the country and he will go into the Magic Millions Guineas as a dominant favourite.

Will Alligator Blood prove too strong for his rivals or will there be a Magic Millions Guineas upset?

We have analysed every single horse in the field and our complete 2020 Magic Millions Guineas tips are below.

Dubious

Dubious is one of the most interesting horses in the Magic Millions Guineas field. He failed to win a race during the Spring, but he wasn’t disgraced in races like the Ladbrokes Vain Stakes, Danehill Stakes, Blue Sapphire and the Winterbottom Stakes. The step-up to 1400 metres is a genuine question mark and I’m not sure whether he is good enough to beat Alligator Blood over this distance.

Alligator Blood

There is no doubt that Alligator Blood is the horse to beat in the Magic Millions Guineas. He has only suffered defeat in one of his race starts and that came by the smallest margin in the Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas, where he looked to have the race locked up. The All Too Hard gelding has returned to the races with two very comfortable wins in the Gold Edition Plate and the Vo Rogue Plate and the scary thing for his rivals is that he still looks to have plenty of improvement left in front of him. His barrier draw is perfect and should ensure that he is able to stay out of trouble. It is tough to see him getting beaten.

Hightail

Hightail was sent to the spelling paddock after he finished at the tail of the field in the Run To The Rose and he has made an excellent returned to the races. He wasn’t beaten far by Diamond Thunder in the Magic Millions Wyong Stakes before he beat a strong field to win the Gosford Guineas. The step-up to 1400 metres shouldn’t be a problem for him and he does have some upside. The Written Tycoon gelding might be the main danger to Alligator Blood and the $4.25 for him to finish in the placings is over the odds.

Diamond Thunder

Diamond Thunder was the big loser of the Magic Millions Guineas barrier draw and is going to need plenty of luck in running from the wide barrier. He was a little bit disappointing in the Vo Rogue Plate and it is tough to see how he is going to be able to turn-the-tables on Alligator Blood in this contest.

Exhilarates

Exhilarates started her Spring Racing Carnival campaign with good wins in the Quezette Stakes and Atlantic Jewel Stakes, but she has failed to live up to that form since. She was sent for a freshen-up following the Blue Sapphire and she returned to the races with a fairly luckless run in the Gosford Guineas. On her best form, she is the second best horse in this field and if she can handle the step-up in trip, there is no reason that she won’t be in the mix.

Superium

Superium is a horse with upside, but this is a big step-up in class. The Verrazano gelding was unlucky not to make it two wins from as many starts at Royal Randwick last start and the step-up in 1400 metres should suit. In saying that, she would need to improve significantly in order to match it with the likes of Alligator Blood.

King Of Hastings

Kings Of Hastings has form around some of the best three-year-olds in Australia including Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas winner Super Seth, who is the only horse to beat Alligator Blood. He had excuses when he returned to the races in the Magic Millions 3&4YO Classic at Ballarat before he returned to winning form at Flemington last start. I like the fact that trainer Anthony Freedman has given him a barrier trial between race starts and I expect him to finish in the first four.

Profit

Profit has recorded three wins from his five race starts and he returned to the races with an excellent second behind Alligator Blood in the Vo Rogue Plate. He should take good improvement from that performance, but the question is whether he is good enough to turn-the-tables on Alligator Blood. The answer is probably not.

Eleven Eleven

Eleven Eleven has raced well without winning during his Queensland Summer Racing Carnival campaign. He wasn’t beaten far in the Winning Rupert Plate and he went on to finish in the placings in both the Gold Edition Plate and the Vo Rogue Plate. There is no doubt that the Fastnet Rock gelding has ability, but is another that simply might not have the talent to match it with Alligator Blood.

Leviathan

Leviathan didn’t have a huge amount of luck in running in the Magic Millions Wyong Stakes and he was able to return to winning form with a classy victory at Randwick last start. There is no doubt that Zoustar gelding does have upside, but this is a genuine step-up in quality.

Star Surprise

Star Surprise returned to winning form with a win over 1000 metres at Pakenham last start. This race is much tougher and I have genuine concerns over his ability to run out a strong 1400 metres.

Scout

Scout was beaten at the Gold Coast last start and has never shown anything to suggest that he is capable of winning a race of this quality.

The Executioner

The Executioner flopped at the Gold Coast last week and he is one of the extreme outsiders in this field for a reason.

Oh Five Glory

Oh Five Glory has recorded only one win from her 13 race starts and she was outclassed badly in the Vo Rogue Plate.

It’s Kind Of Magic

It’s Kind Of Magic is a filly with plenty of upside and she has been very well-supported in Magic Millions Guineas betting. She finished a close fourth in a very strong edition of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and she went on to record a comfortable win at The Valley last start. The ability is there, but this is still a big step-up in class.

Howwonderfullifeis

Howwonderfullifeis was very poor at the Gold Coast last start and was outclassed in the Mode Plate. She isn’t up to this quality.

Let It Pour

Let It Pour is the first emergency in the Magic Millions Guineas field. She wasn’t disgraced in the Vo Rogue Plate and she would be a better chance than a number of the runners in the field already.

Gala Miss

Gala Miss is the second emergency for the Magic Millions Guineas. She has shown some ability during her racing career to date, but this is a big step-up in quality.

Designated

Designated was outclassed in the Gosford Guineas and this race is tougher again.

Badoosh

Badoosh is the fourth emergency in the Magic Millions Guineas field and is unlikely to earn a start.

Bells Approaching

Bells Approaching is the fifth emergency in the Magic Millions Guineas and is highly unlikely to earn a start.
