Magic Millions races 2025 abandoned due to weather

Relentless heavy rain has forced the abandonment of the remaining seven races on Magic Millions Day, with the program rescheduled to run under lights at the Gold Coast on Friday night.

Despite jockeys giving the green light to the newly laid section at the 500-metre mark on Thursday, the forecasted downpours became the primary concern in the lead-up to and on race day itself.

As a result, the prestigious $3 million Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) and the $3 million Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m) will now feature on a postponed seven-race program.

A storm that drenched the track after the Magic Millions The Debut (1000m)—won by Liam Birchley’s juvenile Amosu ($4.80)—led to surface water forming, delaying the meeting by over an hour. After multiple inspections, officials made the decision to postpone the remaining races.

Stewards highlighted the cooperation and professionalism displayed by the jockeys throughout the disrupted day.

“The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday is an iconic national event and will shine brightest on the national stage under lights on Friday,” Racing Queensland CEO Jason Scott said. “The safety of our animals and participants is paramount, and unfortunately, a heavy downpour following the third race has left the track unsuitable for racing.”

Details regarding updated race times are yet to be announced.
