Eskander’s Betstar has wound the Gai Waterhouse-trained galloper into $5 from $8 after an impressive late run to the line.
Fiorente has also shortened in the Cox Plate from $7 into $5.50, while Turnbull Stakes winner Happy Trails has firmed from $51 into $21 in the Group one race at Moonee Valley on October 26.
“Fiorente is the new Melbourne Cup favourite after a massive run from near last in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday,” Betstar’s Alan Eskander said.
“He held up at the opening of the straight but once in clear running he hit the line as only very good horses can. His final sectionals would be outstanding. He will prove very hard to beat in the Cox Plate and as for the Melbourne Cup he is now outright favourite after we wound him in from $8 into $5.”
Meanwhile Puissance De Lune has remained rock solid at $6 in the Melbourne Cup market, but did firm in the Cox Plate from $6 into $5.50 to be equal third in betting.
“I can’t take too much away from Puissance De Lune. He probably hit the front too early in the straight and was a sitting duck for another runner to get over the top of him. He is still going very well, and these two gallopers are definitely Australia’s best hopes in the Melbourne Cup.”
