Mick Tubman banned for possession of EPO

A NSW racehorse trainer has been banned for possession of EPO after the prohibited substance was found during a raid on his provincial stable.

Kembla Grange-based Mick Tubman was disqualified following a Racing NSW stewards’ inquiry.

Analysis of substances in two bottles found in a fridge at Tubman’s home revealed the presence of three erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.

Tubman pleaded guilty to two charges during a hearing on Tuesday.

But stewards said there were mitigating circumstances before disqualifying the 72-year-old trainer for four months.

Because Tubman’s licence was suspended on June 28 pending charges, his disqualification has been backdated.

He can reapply on October 28 for a return to training.

Tubman is best known for training and part-owning Chance Bye, a bargain-buy yearling who won the 2010 Silver Slipper among three career victories during a brief racing career that netted more than $500,000 in prize money.
