Trainer Mike Moroney’s mare gets second wind

Trainer Mike Moroney is expecting a trimmer So You See to put her best foot forward when she has her second-up run at Sandown.

So You See heads to the Ladbrokes Market Control Handicap (1400m) on Saturday where she will be joined by stablemate Reputabelle.

A daughter of So You Think, So You See displayed ability from the outset and after a debut Pakenham win was thrown straight into the deep end in Group 2 three-year-old fillies’ company in the autumn.

She did not disgrace herself, but after a midfield finish in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville in April, So You See was sent for a wind operation.

So You See made her reappearance at Sandown last month, finishing second over 1400m after looming as the winner at the 200m mark.

“She looked a bit burly first-up,” Moroney said.

“She was showing little signs, having a bit of a blow after her work, but she’s tidied that up now and is working along nicely now.

“That was one thing going to that first-up race. We thought we had done enough work with her, but she just blew out in the last bit.

“In saying that though, when they have had a wind operation, you do start to wonder, but that’s what it appeared to be and her breathing seems normal since the operation, so fingers crossed.

“She’s got the ability, it’s just what has the wind operation done for her.”

On the otherhand, Reputabelle has been a work in progress for the Moroney stable since coming across from the South Island of New Zealand as a three-time winner.

“It’s not the strongest form in the South Island, as a rule, but she is getting better than what she was when we first got her,” Moroney said.
