More Sundays to kick off Golden Rose tilt

The regally bred More Sundays will put his Golden Rose credentials to the test when he makes his Sydney debut at Randwick.

More Sundays won his first start impressively at Geelong in early August and the Lindsay Park stable is looking to him to step up with the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill on September 22 in mind.

The colt, by Fastnet Rock out of multiple Group One-winning mare More Joyous, contests Saturday’s ATC Heritage Society Handicap (1300m).

More Sundays, who is raced by his dam’s owner John Singleton, did his early work in Sydney with Bjorn Baker before being transferred to Lindsay Park.

“He had a bit of a soundness issue in front,” co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.

“I don’t think it was anything structural but it started to affect his action so they decided to turn him out.

“The general consensus was with our tracks and the water walker it might give him his best chance and he’s been sound right from the time he’s come to us.”

More Sundays has been at Lindsay Park’s Sydney stable a little over two weeks and won a Rosehill trial on August 20.

Dabernig said More Sundays has done everything asked of him.

“We just thought we’d get him in the routine up in Sydney and have a run before the Golden Rose,” Dabernig said.

“He looks pretty straight forward but I haven’t seen him put under any pressure yet and I’m not sure what he’ll do.

“Hopefully he wins easily and doesn’t need to be put under pressure.”

The stable also has Fundamentalist running in the Group Two Furious Stakes (1200m) heading towards the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) on September 29.

Fundamentalist has raced in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland and has also trialled in Sydney.

“Travelling doesn’t seem to worry her,” Dabernig said.

“She seems to have improved but every race now gets a bit tougher with the program we’ve got mapped out for her through to the Flight Stakes.”

Muraaqeb, entered to run in the Heineken 3 Handicap, will stay in Melbourne to run in the Jockey Celebration Day Handicap at Caulfield.
