Neufbosc remains in Sydney ahead of 2019 Caulfield Cup

The Lindsay Park stable has been granted permission for Racing NSW vets to inspect Neufbosc ahead of the Caulfield Cup.

Neufbosc is the second emergency for Saturday’s $5 million Caulfield Cup, but remains in Sydney where he is also an acceptor for the St Leger Stakes (2600m) at Randwick.

A French-bred import, Neufbosc needs two scratchings to force his way into the 2019 Caulfield Cup.

Senior Lindsay Park trainer David Hayes said the stable would need to know by 3pm on Friday whether Neufbosc had gained a Cup start, otherwise he would remain in Sydney and run at Randwick.

After three runs in Melbourne to commence his spring campaign, Neufbosc was sent to Sydney for The Metropolitan at Randwick, finishing second last behind Come Play With Me on October 5.

“We’re leaving him in Sydney for as long as possible,” Hayes said.

“His trot up will be whenever they organise it and we’ll just monitor what is happening.”

All 22 acceptors for Saturday’s Caulfield Cup undergo Racing Victoria veterinary checks, commencing Thursday, to determine their fitness for the 2400m handicap.

The Mike Moroney-trained Sound is first emergency and will gain a start on Saturday if there is a scratching, ahead of Neufbosc.

Irish-trained True Self is third emergency with last year’s Melbourne Cup third placegetter Prince Of Arran the fourth reserve.

In 2014, all four emergencies gained a start, with first reserve Brambles finishing fourth behind Admire Rakti.

Lindsay Park has three confirmed runners in the Caulfield Cup field, Constantinople ($9), Rostroprovich ($21) and Qafila ($34), while Neufbosc is an $81 chance.
