No Shenanigans in the VOBIS Gold Rush

Race experience proved beneficial for Shesallshenangians as the Simon Zahra-trained filly raced to an easy victory at Bendigo.

A $115,000 yearling purchase on the Gold Coast last year, Shesallshenanigans collected a first prize of $137,500 along with $30,000 in Super VOBIS bonuses with her victory in the VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m) on Saturday.

Ridden by Linda Meech, Shesallshenanigans ($4 betr) raced to a 4-¼ length win from Picky ($7.50) with debutant Beaunified ($19) a further two lengths away third.

Shesallshenanigans was the only two-year-old of the 12 starters to be into her second racing preparation.

The daughter of Toronado raced once in the spring before resuming with an 1100m maiden win at Bendigo in February ahead of a trip to Adelaide for the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville in which she finished third.

Another rich race, the $1 million The Showdown (1200m) at Sandown on April 15 will now come under consideration for the filly as will a return trip to Adelaide for the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on the same day.

“We’ve been a bit suspect whether she’s going to get a strong 1200 (metres), so we’ll just go home, enjoy the win and we’ve got plenty of time to have a think about it,” Zahra said.

“That was pretty impressive. I loved the way she got to the front, relaxed nicely and Linda could go whenever she wanted to go.

“She’s really starting to turn the corner and she’s turned into a really nice racehorse.”

The victory came at an opportune time as Zahra said he had purchased the half-sister to Shesallshenagians at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale last month with shares remaining in the filly.

Meech said Shesallshenanigans has a good racing brain that could see her stretch out to 1200m.

“Not many horses can sprint off a really high cruising speed, but she can, so 1200 (metres) might suit her right down to the ground,” Meech said.
