Horse Racing News: Ozzmosis the ‘Rolls Royce’ of juveniles

Dylan Gibbons was left searching for superlatives after emerging colt Ozzmosis maintained his unbeaten record with a classy victory over the highly-touted Royal Tribute at Randwick.

The top apprentice compared the Bjorn Baker-trained winner to a luxury car and said the most exciting aspect of his performance was the fact he was still untapped.

“He is like driving a Rolls Royce,” Gibbons said.

“I have never been that confident so far from home.

“Once I had him on the bridle, I thought it was just a matter of aiming and shooting really.

“The scary thing there is improvement in him. When he got there, he pricked his ears and had a look around.

“He oozes a lot of quality and it will be incredible to see what he does when he really puts the foot down.”

An impressive winner at Gosford on debut, Ozzmosis ($1.85 ladbrokes fav) had no trouble handling the rise to Sydney Saturday grade, stalking leader Royal Tribute ($3.50) before ranging up beside him and quickly getting the better of the eventual runner-up to score by 1-1/4 lengths.

Fleetwood ($11) battled on for third another two lengths in arrears.

Baker said he came to the races confident Ozzmosis would be hard to beat but given his lofty hopes for the horse, his pre-race anxiety levels were high.

“I think I was more nervous about this bloke today than I have been about a racehorse for a long time,” Baker said.

“He couldn’t have done much more. He won the first two-year-old trial of the year and we put him out after that, he wasn’t one hundred per cent.

“He is definitely a quality colt going forward and that’s what it’s about, two-year-old runners and two-year-old winners and he’s a Zoustar colt so we’ve got to give him every opportunity.”

Baker said Ozzmosis would be spelled and aimed towards the spring three-year-old races.
