In the news:

Multiple Group One winner Moment Of Change will carry topweight in the Newmarket Handicap.

The Peter Moody-trained sprinter, who has been given 58kg, will be chasing his third-straight Group One win after claiming the CF Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes double.

Moment Of Change was narrowly denied by Shamexpress in last year’s Newmarket (1200m) with 56.5kg.

Shamexpress has 56kg after carrying 51.kg to victory as a three-year-old.

Oakleigh Plate winner Lankan Rupee, the TAB favourite for the Newmarket, has 56.5kg while his stablemate Samaready has 56kg.

The Peter Snowden-trained Knoydart has 52.5kg after Darley decided to pay a $55,000 late-entry fee after the gelding’s Oakleigh Plate minor placing.

“Moment Of Change was beaten by the narrowest margin in the 2013 Newmarket with 56.5kg and he has returned this campaign with back-to-back Group one victories,” Racing Victoria senior handicapper Neil Jennings said.

“He also ran three-time Group One winner Buffering to a nose when a gallant runner-up in the Winterbottom Stakes in November so he’s a worthy topweight in this year’s race rising 1.5kg.”

The Danny O’Brien-trained Shamexpress will be striving to become the fifth horse to win the Newmarket in consecutive years but the first since Razor Sharp in 1982-83.

There are 31 horses, including 10 three-year-olds, still in contention for Saturday week’s $1 million sprint at Flemington with acceptances on Wednesday week.
