The Sydney Cup campaign of Quick Thinker is back on track after he rebounded to form with a superior staying performance in the Chairman’s Quality at Randwick.
The New Zealander had been winless since last year’s Australian Derby but he relished the soft conditions and genuine tempo to outlast Rondinella by a head.
Andrew Forsman, who trains the four-year-old in partnership with renowned horseman Murray Baker, confirmed Quick Thinker would back up in the Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick next Saturday.
“Obviously the track was quite testing. They were under the pump a fair way out there and he was still travelling quite well,” Forsman said.
“Definitely the track conditions have played into his hands.”
Realm Of Flowers is a $6 Sydney Cup favourite, just ahead of international raider Favorite Moon ($7) and Victorian filly Miami Bound ($9).
Quick Thinker is a $15 chance following his Chairman’s Quality win while Rondinella, who chased gamely but could not wear down the winner, is at $17.
