Rachel King wins Scone Cup aboard Laure Me In

Top jockey Rachel King has played a starring role at Scone with a brace of stakes victories.

Sydney-based jockey Rachel King is the toast of Scone after making a clean sweep of the two feature races on Friday’s program, culminating with a Cup victory aboard Laure Me In.

Forty minutes after taking out the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) on Rocha Clock, King captured her first Listed Scone Cup (1600m) on the David Pfieffer-trained gelding.

“It’s nice isn’t it? I’ll come here more often,” King quipped on Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“It has always been a lovely track and a track I’ve really enjoyed riding on, obviously throughout my apprenticeship, and it’s always nice to come back up here for the carnival.”

King allowed Laure Me In ($6) to find his feet early, edging closer on the home turn and bringing him down the outside with an uninterrupted run to down Looks Like Elvis ($21) by a half-length.

Order Again ($9.50) was another half-neck back in third and was the hard luck story of the race after struggling to find clear passage in the straight.

It was King’s first ride on Laure Me In and she credited Pfieffer’s training effort, along with some advice from the horse’s last-start rider Jason Collett.

“I had to go back probably a bit little further than I wanted to at the start, but he got into a beautiful rhythm and was just able to track up nicely around the turn when they bunched a bit, and he was very strong late,” King said.

“That’s the first time I’ve sat on him so all credit to Dave and the team, they’ve prepared him really well today.

“I had a chat with Jason Collett as well the other day, he obviously knows the horse well and he gave me a few pointers.”

The Scone Cup also gave Pfieffer a winning double on the card after he earlier produced Artero to claim the $200,000 Inglis 2YO Challenge (1100m).
