Race 1 – 2:20pm – Schweppes Plate (1100m)
Tough race to begin the program with all bar a few facing the starter for the first time.
Deep Expectation did everything but win first-up over the track and distance a few weeks ago when runner-up after leading for most of the way.
The Deep Field filly got a little wayward when down the straight, costing her a step in the finish.
She’ll only be better for that effort though, and she does have a slight fitness edge over most of these. Out over further and with a good jockey engaged, she’s a leading hope at a good price.
Race 2 – 2:55pm – Harry Angel First Yearlings Handicap (1400m)
Stray has a bit of a class edge over some of her rivals here after racing at Group 1 level during the spring.
The Anthony Cummings-trained filly is still a five-start maiden, but she was far from disgraced in the Flight Stakes where she raced three-wide the trip.
Whether 1400m is a little too sharp first-up is the big question, but she looked in great order in her Randwick trial two weeks ago and this does look much easier for her.
Race 3 – 3:30pm – Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1400m)
Cafe Royal is worth forgiving on her last start over the track and trip where she pulled up with some post-race issues after running second-last.
Her first-up run the start prior was tough to fault when second at Warwick Farm, and she should find this a touch easier dropping back in grade with most of those previous issues seemingly behind her.
The daughter of Snitzel has found the money in four of her five starts over 1400m, while she’s also done her best racing third-up from a spell.
Race 4 – 4:05pm – Heineken 3 Handicap (1550m)
Bedford Square has been up for a while, but you wouldn’t know it judging by how well she’s raced of late.
The Tavistock mare has landed in the money in each of her last five starts, including here at Kensington over the same distance two weeks ago where she basically ran from last to first at the home turn.
The fact she overcame an awkward start that day and won with plenty to spare reads exceptionally well, and if Jason Collett can save her best for late again, she’ll be tough to hold out.
Race 5 – 4:40pm – BM72 Handicap (1800m)
Winning form is good form and that is exactly what Galaxy Belle brings to the races.
The Kris Lees-trained mare bounced back from a disappointing first-up run to put nearly 4.5L between herself and her rivals at Newcastle last month, her fifth win from her last seven starts.
She’s on debut here at Kensington, but with three wins to her name over 1800m, she’s the deserving favourite with plenty of improvement to come.
Race 6 – 5:15pm – Vinery Yearlings Handicap (1000m)
Stoical is having his first run back since September and looks well-placed stepping out over his preferred distance.
The lightly-raced sprinter has won three from seven starts over 1000m, while he’s also done his best racing fresh with a pair of wins to his name first-up.
Team Snowden has been in red-hot form of late, and this four-year-old can help add to their record based on what we’ve seen from him at the trials recently.
Race 7 – 5:50pm – Bowermans Handicap (1400m)
Cape Breton is having his first run back and looks to have a major class edge over most of these.
The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old contested much tougher races than this last year, albeit failing to run a place in both the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm, and the Springtime Stakes at Flemington during the spring.
This looks a nice starting point for him back in grade though, and he has looked in good order at the trials recently. James McDonald has won on him previously and the pair should be afforded a lovely run off the speed.
