The Group 1 Ranvet Stakes is run over 2000m at Rosehill Gardens at weight for age and the 2022 edition has attracted a quality group of horses.
The race was first run in 1903 and has been won by some champions horses including Poseidon (1908), Peter Pan (1935), Gunsynd (71,73), Super Impose (1991) and Grand Armee (2005).
Verry Elleegant is attempting to win the race in back to back years and cement further cement her legacy as a champion of the turf.

1. Angel Of Truth (5)
- Record: 33:5-2-3
- Track: 6:1-0-1
- Distance: 7:1-0-1
- Trainer: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes
- Jockey: William Pike
- Odds: $8.00
Was excellent behind Verry Elleegant in the Group 1 Chipping Norton first up at Randwick but was no match for the champion mare and will find it even tougher now she gets out to 2000m. Has just the one win from seven starts second up and while he is a place chance, I’m not sure he can turn the tables on her.
2. Entente (6)
- Record: 24:6-3-5
- Track: 6:2-1-0
- Distance: 8:2-1-2
- Trainer: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
- Jockey: Tim Clark
- Odds: $26.00
Struggled on the heavy track in the Listed Randwick City Stakes last start where he was beaten over 11 lengths behind Zeyrek. Nothing he has produced so far this prep says to me that he is a winning chance in this race and he’d need to go to a whole new level.
3. Sikandarabad (1)
- Record: 44:5-7-4
- Track: 4:0-2-0
- Distance: 8:1-0-3
- Trainer: Sam Kavanagh
- Jockey: Hugh Bowman
- Odds: $61
Sikandarabad has finished seventh or worse in six of his last eight starts and both his starts so far in a lower grade have been sub par. Place chance at best.
4. Emissary (3)
- Record: 10:2-2-3
- Track: 0:0-0-0
- Distance: 2:0-0-1
- Trainer: Mike Moroney
- Jockey: Mark Zahra
- Odds: $11.00
Placed in the Group 3 Hotham at this track to close out his spring campaign and was not far behind Cascadian when resuming in the Peter Young Stakes back in February. The lightly raced five year old gelding has a fair amount of upside and I’m confident he’ll run a nice race.
5. Verry Elleegant (4)
- Record: 36:16-7-3
- Track: 5:4-1-0
- Distance: 12:5-3-1
- Trainer: Chris Waller
- Jockey: James Mcdonald
- Odds: $1.40
Only six months ago there was a real debate whether this mare was a champion of the turf. That debate is over after her spring campaign where she won our greatest race carrying 57kg to boot. She has added another Group 1 race last start and shoots for a dozen in her career in this event. Tough seeing her getting beat in the small field.
6. Montefilia (2)
- Record: 17:5-1-4
- Track: 3:1-0-1
- Distance: 3:1-1-1
- Trainer: David Payne
- Jockey: Jason Collett
- Odds: $5.50
Montefilia is a three time Group 1 winning mare who was excellent when resuming behind Verry Elleegant in the Chipping Norton and if there is any danger to the champion mare, she is it. The market agrees.
