The favourites have fought out the Group One Australasian Oaks, with the Chris Waller-trained Egg Tart finishing strongly to beat Kenedna in a thrilling contest at Morphettville.
John Allen took a rails run on the Darren Weir-trained $2.80 Luxbet favourite Kenedna in the straight and hit the front inside the 100m, but Kerrin McEvoy was able to weave through on Egg Tart ($3) then overhaul Kenedna in the final few bounds.
Ana Royale ($21) ran home strongly out wide to finish another half a length away in third in the 2010m feature for fillies.
Egg Tart’s victory in Saturday’s $500,000 race gave Sydney’s premier trainer his first Adelaide Group One win and his eighth for this season, while it was Melbourne Cup-winning jockey McEvoy’s seventh elite-level win for 2016-17.
Egg Tart remains unbeaten this campaign from four starts after wins at Newcastle, Warwick Farm and Flemington.
