Ten races will be run and won at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney’s west on Saturday, January 20th.
There has been more rain in the greater metropolitan region of Sydney this week and at publish, a track rated in the Soft (7) range has been witnessed.
You can find all my thoughts and complete Rosehill Tips below.
Ned Australian Whisky Handicap (1100m) – 12:30pm AEDT
Elegant Artist turned in a decent performance on debut earlier this month and can break her maiden at Canterbury on Saturday.
The Trapeze Artist filly didn’t show a lot at the trials prior to her debut, but she mustered a decent turn of foot in the 1100m dash at Canterbury to only just miss.
With improvement for that experience, I think she’ll be right in the finish.
Suggested Bet: No. 11 Elegant Artist
Highway Handicap (1400m) – 1:05pm AEDT
This weekend’s Highway race is a typically open affair with plenty of winning chances engaged, and Persian Dancer looks to be one of them.
Persian Dancer has raced in consistent form since returning from a break back in spring, winning two of six starts and placing as many times.
Her first crack at one of these Highway races heralded a pleasing fourth behind Magic Pharoah last month, and we can have an each way play again this week at current odds.
Suggested Bet: No. 13 Persian Dancer
Midway Handicap (1200m) – 1:40pm AEDT
This is another wide-open race with several winning chances engaged, but I am going to have an each way play on the third-up Tamaroa.
Tamaroa broke his maiden in fashion at Warwick Farm first-up last month and was luckless in running at his only other start.
Fitter third-up and slightly further out in trip, I do believe that something like this remains well within his means.
Suggested Bet: No. 11 Tamaroa
Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1200m) – 2:15pm AEDT
I thought that Powerful Peg’s fresh performance was outstanding and she is primed to strike at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Rubick mare has won six of her fifteen career starts to date, placing a further five times and finding form around some classy opposition.
Having hit the line over 1200m at Randwick, denied only a head by a fit Contemporary, she’s open to plenty of improvement and has won at this point of her preparation previously.
Suggested Bet: No. 6 Powerful Peg
Toyota Forklifts Handicap (1100m) – 2:50pm AEDT
Epic Proportions this week steps out second-up, and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.
The Better Than Ready colt returned to action with a nice performance for second behind Scuderia at a similar class at The Valley last month.
He was eye-catching at this point of his preparation last time in, and he is proven at the Sydney way of going.
He can settle closer to the speed this week and with even luck, finish over the top of them.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Epic Proportions
Petaluma Handicap (2400m) – 3:25pm AEDT
Yankee Hussel has continued to improve with racing and as the bar has been raised this time in, and this looks a perfect opportunity for her to transition into Saturday metro company.
Having finished midfield in a few decent metro races earlier in her prep, the American Pharoah mare relished getting out to the 2100m with an eye-catching win at Gosford two back, and she franked that performance with a dominant three-length win at Canterbury last time out.
She’s hard fit and the mile and a half looks ideal at this point of her preparation.
Suggested Bet: No. 3 Yankee Hussel
Chandon Handicap (1400m) – 4pm AEDT
Excelladus was outstanding in a similar race at Randwick last time out and looks well placed to make it two in a row this week.
The Joe Pride-trained galloper stripped fitter via a couple of decent efforts, both heralding fourth placings in BM78 company in metro company when resuming this time, before powering through to win a BM88 at his latest.
He’s hard fit and will take beating again, and he is my best bet on the program.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Excelladus
Bisley Workwear Handicap (1500m) – 4:40pm AEDT
The form around Buillt this time in has been really good, and he looms as a key winning chance again this week at Rosehill.
The I Am Invincible gelding has missed placing once at his last five trips to the races, winning twice and highlighted by his eye-catching victory under James McDonald at Randwick earlier this month.
He’s another galloper that steps out this week in peak order and is drawn to receive a lovely run again from gate 3.
Suggested Bet: No. 7 Buillt
Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) – 5:20pm AEDT
Shohei is yet to strike in three starts back from a break, but I am inclined to give her another chance under what look favourable conditions at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Mikki Isle mare stamped herself as one to watch during her debut prep, picking off a couple of decent races and finding form around some classy opposition.
She was on the wrong part of the track and little too far back to figure at her latest appearance, but she looks to be in peak order this week and has drawn a peach under Tommy Berry.
Suggested Bet: No. 7 Shohei
James Squire Handicap (1500m) – 5:55pm AEDT
Centrestone is the one for me in the last at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Hinchinbrook mare returned a winning in BM78 company up in Brisbane last month, before finishing a length off an impressive Midnight In Tokyo at Doomben.
1500m, James McDonald an inside draw are all ticks, while she has performed well on a rain-affected track previously.
Suggested Bet: No. 4 Centrestone
