News:

Trainer Paul Beshara has welcomed back his stable star on the day he himself returned to training after serving a six-month ban.

Beshara was disqualified after he was found guilty of injecting Happy Trails with a medication on September 14, the morning of the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Beshara had to watch from home as Happy Trails raced in Byron Cozamanis’s name when falling agonisingly short of beating Shamus Award in the Cox Plate.

The trainer was relicensed on Monday and Beshara was keen to put the episode behind him.

“That’s all behind me and I’m here to train,” Beshara told Melbourne radio station RSN.

“It was very tough but we get through it and plenty of worse things happen.”

Beshara was expecting Happy Trails to arrive at his Morphettville base on Tuesday afternoon to begin preparing for his third attempt to win the Cox Plate.

Happy Trails missed the autumn because of injury, which is why Beshara decided to start working on the rising seven-year-old a month earlier than last year.

“He can go on the water walker and then slowly start trotting him,” Beshara said.

“I’ll give him a nice slow preparation.”

Beshara expects Happy Trails to resume in Adelaide in mid-August before returning to Melbourne for his spring campaign.

Beshara will also resume training smart sprinter Richie’s Vibe.

Tony Vasil took over the training of Richie’s Vibe in Beshara’s absence.

Richie’s Vibe won at Listed level during the Flemington spring carnival before Vasil prepared the gelding to win the Group Two Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley in January.

Beshara said he expected to have his first runners in the next two weeks.
