Sandown Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 6/4/2022

Ladbrokes Park will host Victoria’s midweek metro meeting on Wednesday, and nine races are on the program.

The rail will be left in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Soft (6) range.

Race 1 – 12:30pm AEDT – The Big Screen Company Handicap (1400m)

Foujita San only just missed on debut at The Valley, and he can break his maiden at Ladbrokes Park this week.

The Maurice colt was prominent in betting ahead of his debut, and he ran the potentially classy Zamborghini to a head.

He’ll only improve for that experience and on exposed form, he is the one to beat.

Race 2 – 1:00pm AEDT – Ladbrokes Switch Handicap (1200m)

I’m going to have something on the resuming Chief Altony at Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday.

Chief Altony hasn’t been seen at the races since September, but he is yet to miss placing at this point of his preparation.

He was last seen finishing second behind Mr Brightside at The Valley, and that form obviously reads extremely well for something like this.

Race 3 – 1:35pm AEDT – Ladbroke It! Handicap (3000m)

Convict Sam looms as a key winning chance over 3000m at Ladbrokes Park this week.

The Fiorente gelding has returned many plenty efforts throughout his preparation, and he is twice a winner here at Ladbrokes Park.

He has found form around some handy stayers, he was last seen finishing second behind Budd Fox here and in my opinion, this is the perfect race for him.

Race 4 – 2:10pm AEDT – Tile Importer Good Friday Country Trainers Series Heat (1400m)

Achaeus is another resuming galloper that looks to have claims on winning at Ladbrokes Park this week.

The son of Tertullian was a model of consistency last time, and recorded a dominant win over a mile at Sale, most notably.

His form on a wet track is good, and we can have an each-way play at the price.

Race 5 – 2:45pm AEDT – Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Handicap (1400m)

This looks to be a drop in class for Set The Sails, and I am pretty keen to back him following the booking of Jamie Kah.

Set The Sails has returned three competitive efforts since resuming this time, and won over 1400m at Pakenham two starts back before filling the minors in Listed company.

He steps out this week in peak order, and he is my best bet of the day.

Race 6 – 3:20pm AEDT – Ladbrokes Easy Form Handicap (1600m)

There is a case to be made for a few of them in Race 6 at Ladbrokes Park this week, but Horrifying is the one that I want to be with.

Horrifying stamped himself as a galloper to follow at the backend of his three-year-old season, winning over 2000m at HQ and ending his prep fifth in the Queensland Derby.

It is fair to say that he didn’t quite measure up in spring, but I thought that there was a lot to like about his resuming effort for fourth here a fortnight ago, and he’ll take plenty of benefit from that hit-out.

Race 7 – 3:55pm AEDT – Ladbrokes Blended Bets Handicap (2100m)

Laybuy has hardly put a hoof wrong this prep, and he gets another chance to win at Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday.

The Mike Moroney-trained gelding won here at Ladbrokes Park three starts back, and he hasn’t missed placing at his three other appearances, finding form around some talented rivals.

He steps out this week in peak order, Damien Oliver takes the ride and I think that he will be winning.

Race 8 – 4:30pm AEDT – Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Handicap (1200m)

He faces a rise in class, but Do Ya Punk couldn’t have been much more impressive on debut, and he can keep alive his unbeaten record at Ladbrokes Park.

The Unencumbered gelding showed plenty of ability at the trials prior to debuting and put the writing on the wall with an eye-catching effort at Ballarat last month, beating home the likes of Jayanthi.

He is another galloper who will only improve today and this does look the next logical step for him.

Race 9 – 5:05pm AEDT – IVE Print Handicap (1200m)

Morean hasn’t returned a bad effort since debuting, and she can record another win at Ladbrokes Park this week.

The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained filly stamped herself as one to watch when winning on debut at Sale in February, and she wasn’t disgraced in a couple of tougher races since, only just missing here last time.

Jamie Kah retains the ride, and the filly can begin her rise through the grades.
