Schwarz is likely to be held back from his Group 1 debut for at least one more start with the four-year-old set to bypass this Saturday’s Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

The son of Zoustar will instead be kept up to the mark with a trial at Randwick on Friday with his next start not to come until midway through next month.

The $750,000 Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) was touted as the likely second-up option after his tough first-up win in the Group 2 Missile Stakes on August 10 but Tom Charlton said he and co-trainer John O’Shea were taking their time with the entire.

“It obviously ended up being a pretty solid run,” Charlton said of the narrow Missile Stakes win over Arctic Glamour.

“He’d only had the one trial, he was caught wide on a big tempo and he was fantastic, but it ended up being a tough run.

“He has come through it well but we’re going to take a little bit of time with him.

“He will trial on Friday and then he will most likely go to the Theo Marks Stakes.”

The $300,000 Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) will be run at Rosehill on September 14.

Schwarz, a $1.25 million yearling purchase who is raced by the Rosemont-led Victorian Alliance, took his record to four wins from eight starts with his Missile Stakes win.

He is twice a winner at 1400m, but Charlton said the Theo Marks Stakes presents better options for the campaign ahead.

“The Theo Marks will give us options in terms of which way we head, whether we go out in trip, come back in trip,” Charlton said.

“We’re still learning a little bit about him so he will head to the Theo Marks I’d say, and we will go from there.”

Schwarz was still in Memsie Stakes markets on Sunday, a $15 chance with bookies in the event that will feature the returns of Pride Of Jenni ($2.10) and Mr Brightside ($3).
