Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan’s homebred mare Abidewithme signed off a memorable week for her champion sire Redoute’s Choice with stakes success in New Zealand this afternoon.
The 4YO mare added a second Listed Race to her record when she finished over the top of a talented field to claim today’s WRC Anniversary H. 1600m LR.
Arietta, winner of her previous four starts, was the runner-up, a long head away, and Roc de Chine was almost a length back in third place.
Abidewithme had previously won at Listed level as a 3YO, but has returned in even better form this season, winning at all three of her appearances.
One of eight stakeswinners bred on the Redoute’s Choice/Zabeel cross, Abidewithme is a half-sister to VRC Oaks-placed stakeswinner Miss Scarlatti, from Group 2 winner Crimson. This is also the family of Victoria Derby G1 winner Omnicorp and Group winners Wildly, Suavity and the fine Singapore performer Always Certain (by Not A Single Doubt).
Abidewithme has now won six of her 9 starts and is an exciting prospect for further black type honours.
Her win at Trentham rounded out a big week for Redoute’s Choice, who topped the Magic Millions sire averages for the ninth year and promptly left for France where he is standing his second season at Haras de Bonneval. Just as he arrived, the births of his first French-conceived foals were being announced.
Then, on Wednesday, the Arrowfield-bred filly All Cerise became Redoute’s Choice’s 700th individual winner when she won in style at Canterbury for the Kepitis family and trainer Chris Waller.
Ten yearlings from the 2012 crop of Redoute’s Choice will be offered at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale in March including 3 colts & 3 fillies in the Arrowfield draft.
